One way to burn off the Christmas turkey
After the inevitable over indulgence at Christmas, the Goring and Streatley Fell Running Championships provides the perfect remedy with 8.5km of trail running with a total elevation of over 350m over 5"fells".
WTC had a number of entries, with the finishers from WTC being Roger Gill (2nd), Harry Gow (15th), Phil Wortley (20th), Conor Rourke (30th), AHS (47th), Matt Clamp (48th) and Sarah Sweeten (53rd).
The following report came from Giles, the organiser:
"Happy New Year!
Thank you for making this year’s Goring & Streatley Fell Running Championships such a fantastic day.
Here are the results and a couple of photos.Wallingford Tri Club turned up en masse to make it an almost record turn-out with 59 runners (not counting dogs) and more marshals than ever before.
Jonah Marsh was unwell, so Oonagh Driscoll blew the horn to start us off.A group of four contenders formed a front pack. Jim Collins (5 times winner), Roger Gill (2 times winner) and Dr Neil Hart (1 time winner and record holder) showed Dave Jackson, the new guy, the way round.
You could have thrown a banket over them at the top of the final hill, before Dave struck for home and victory. Jim’s second place turned into 4th as both Roger and Neil passed him on the Coombe. He’ll be back. Three minutes later the local talent started to flood in, with Jeremy Waite beating, Jake Morris, Paul Mason and Ian Savill. Alex Marden in 9th was the fastest lady for the second year in a row, knocking almost three minutes off the record that she set last year. Olivia Bentley was less than a minute behind recording what would otherwise have been a course record. And then we followed up thick and fast in what was the fastest field ever recorded. Special thank you to the marshals and the Bull.
Have a wonderful 2023! Please come back for the ten year anniversary at 11am Wednesday 27 December 2023.
Giles"
